 Background and Experience

Through my experiences of advising clients and running businesses at PwC I developed a wide- ranging knowledge of how successful businesses operate and the levers to sustainable and profitable growth. I have also gained  a deep tax technical specialism, built upon my early career with HMRC as an Inspector of Taxes and subsequently 24 years advising clients.

After a successful career spanning 30 years with the accountancy profession  and, before that, HMRC, I left PwC in 2009 from my position as Senior Tax Partner in the East Midlands to create a unique consultancy business, based on the skills learnt as an adviser, business executive and tax inspector.  Chris Burns Consulting Ltd brings this range of skills and experience to a wider business community.

During  my career I have provided business and tax advice to individuals, OMBs, inbound and outbound investor companies (USA, Far East and many EU and other European countries), private equity and listed plcs. I  led the client relationship  at some of the largest clients in PwC offices in  Liverpool, Cambridge, Leeds and East Midlands

I   held a number of management roles within PwC, including leading the national Tax Compliance Centre for corporate tax, sitting on the National Tax Policy Panel and latterly leading the East Midlands tax practice. These roles encompassed business strategy, business development, financial, operational and risk management.

My early career was spent at the Inland Revenue (1979-1986) where I gained a solid grounding in tax as a graduate trainee Inspector in Liverpool, progressing to a fully-trained District Inspector in Wallasey. Prior to joining the profession, I was the Revenue's representative on the Civil Service Selection Board.

Since leaving PwC I have built a busy portfolio career  involving  business /tax consultancy, lecturing on current tax developments ,non executive director at an NHS Trust, adviser to the  Chartered Institute of Tax, elected Member of Court at Bristol University and property

management.
